Cheyenne

Picture
Minimally socialized, Cheyenne came to us a stray dog.  She is most likely a Shiba/Jindo mix and was very true to the breeds.  With a strong prey drive, Cheyenne has the impressive ability to catch birds straight out of the sky!

Since she is still quite young, we were happy to match her up with an active young owner who takes her out hiking and getting her socialized.  She is doing well in her new home!

Maiko

Picture
Cute sweet Maiko came to us from the Las Vegas animal shelter.  She was quite timid and shy.  We found a Shiba savvy home for her that was willing to work with her on socialization.  This sweet girl now goes to dog parks and beaches.  She's slowly opening up to enjoying all things that life has to offer her.

We love our patient owners!

Sakura

Picture
Gorgeous little Sakura came to us from Inland Valley Humane Society in Pomona, CA. She was a stray dog, wearing an electric collar.  She had some strange burn-like wounds along her back and was being treated for it at the shelter.  It looked like an odd chemical burn.  Due to her condition, she was only available to rescue.

After some time, we concluded that she burned herself on the electric fence when she dug a hole to get away.  The wounds looked terrible and took about 3 weeks to scab over.  Once she was healed, she found a wonderful home and now gets daily walks in the park.  This sweet girl was one of the sweetest, friendliest Shibas to ever come through rescue.  We're so happy she's better and in her forever home.

Toby

Picture
Meet Toby.  Once again, we were contacted by our friends at LA County Long Beach shelter and they wanted our help in finding a foster or permanent home for this cute owner surrender.  At 8 years old, Toby had excellent manners, was dog friendly and had a wonderful temperament.

Luckily, we had an equally amazing applicant who was waiting for just the right older Shiba to come along.  It was a match made in heaven and Toby found himself an amazing *home* for the holidays.

Pipa ("Sunflower Seed" in Spanish)

Picture
Cute little Pipa (a Chihuahua mix) was picked up the same time we picked up Walker (see Shiba/Sheltie mix below).  She was found as a stray at the boarding facility that Walker was kept at.  She came out of the bushes, with severe demodex mange, covered in fleas and extremely lethargic.

We took her in, cleaned her up, treated the mange, updated her vaccines and got her spayed.  This little girl was a JOY to have in our home.  A cute little sprite that enjoyed walks with the Shibas, we were sad to see her go...

Ginger

Picture
Ginger came to us a retired show dog and looking for a more relaxing life.  When it was time to spay her is when we found that she was suffering from pyometra, a life threatening condition that occurs to unspayed females.  Luckily, we got her spayed and her condition improved while on antibiotics.

This sweet girl found herself an amazing home that enjoys hiking, running and baby-ing this sweet girl.

Trio

Picture
This handsome boy was a former show dog, retiring from the trade.  He was a bit nervous and lacked socialization, but was a very nice dog with great manners to all people.

Trio quickly found a home and now lives with another Shiba sibling.  We get updates on how he is doing and are happy that they take the boys out for walks.  Trio continues to become more and more relaxed with each day.  The family consists of avid hikers, so we hope Trio gets to go out soon!

Walker

Picture
Walker was an owner surrender and came to us when his owner contacted us about rehoming her Shiba.  She had purchased him from a pet store.  While we believe that he may have been a Shiba/Sheltie mix, he was nonetheless gorgeous and a very nice dog.

He went to a foster home that immediately fell in love with him and they decided to keep him.  He is happy and doing well in his new home.  He has children to play with and they love their new pup.

Panda

Picture
Panda was no Shiba.  She was a mixed breed - possible Jack Russell Terrier mix? Possible Beagle mix? Either way, she was FUN, FUN, FUN!  Panda came to us from our vet's office.  They were having trouble finding her a home, but they had found good homes for all of her puppies.  Sadly, she was the last one to find a home.

We happily helped them out (and we were in a "Shiba lull" anyway).  We quickly found Panda a home and she's now with two other canine siblings.

Sea Biscuit (or "Biscuit" for short)

Picture
Biscuit came to us from the Long Beach City shelter.  He was an owner surrender from someone who had recently adopted him.  (Sometimes Shibas aren't for everyone~).  He came to us "morbidly obese" as our vet called it and desperately needed to be on a diet.  We knew he'd have to be on a workout regimen like a horse.  Thus, the moniker "Sea Biscuit".

Biscuit was adopted to a fellow rescuer who fell in love with him and had to have him.  He now goes to work with her each day.  He has it made.

Danny

Picture
Although we drove far (4 hours down to San Diego and back) to get this guy from the San Diego shelter, he was WORTH it!  Danny was initially diagnosed with entropion in both eyes, a very expensive and PAINFUL condition that required immediate veterinary care.  Poor boy was in rough shape - he had been found running the streets in Escondido with a broken chain.  It had cut up his back legs.  His eyes were pretty raw and oozy.  On an improved diet, his eyes began to clear up.  Our veterinary eye specialist informed us that his was not entropion, but allergy related.  (Well! We know all about those!)  So, he was on a fast track to improved health.

This boy is super sweet and one of our best fosters.  We were super excited when he found a home - he went to a great family and they ADORE him!

Update - Danny now shares his home with a Shiba sister and loves going out for al fresco dining! What a life!

Kiku

Picture
Our friends at the LA County shelter contacted us about sweet Kiku.  She is a most likely a Shiba mix, but we really weren't sure what she was mixed with.  All we knew was that she was super with kids, and fantastic with all dogs.

Kiku was adopted to a great family that had another dog, and young children.  They keep Kiku entertained, dressed up for Halloween, and she loves it there.

Yumi (aka Yumiko)

Picture
Yumi came to us in January of 2012 from the Orange County Animal Care center, looking pretty bad.  She had suffered from chronic allergies; her face swollen and bloody in some areas.  It took several months to get her "cleaned up" and we continued to play with her dosages of Prednisolone and Atarax to get her itchy condition under control.  While the change in diet helped tremendously, it was clear that she would always have to be on medicines to keep her comfortable.

She is a sweet girl that gets along with all dogs, even my own resident Shiba alpha girl.  Her submissive nature is wonderful; her health - a challenge.  Then one day, we just decided it made sense to keep her here.  She's a rescue founder's "Foster Fail".  We love our Yumiko.

Riley

Picture
Things could not be better for this cutie!  He is doing so well and has definitely made himself at home in his new forever home. He did an sleepover with his extended family and now other family members want a Shiba of their own! In the meantime, they cannot wait to dogsit Riley again.

He still needs some work with other dogs and his new owners have still been taking him on weekly walks with a friendly Klee Kai.  While they get along great when walking together (as a pack), its definitely a work in progress.

Overall, they love him and look very forward to having him for the rest of his doggy life.  =)

Hana

Picture
Pretty Hana was very true to the Shiba "standard" - in foster care, she hunted and successfully caught her prey (and was so PROUD of it)!  Her challenging ways (ignoring you, running away from you, and her feisty spirit) were all characteristic traits that only a true Shiba lover would appreciate.  Luckily, we found a Shiba savvy family that had a Shiba girl JUST LIKE Hana.  It was a perfect fit.

Now you can find her lounging in her favorite sleeping spot in the home.  The middle landing so that she can watch over the entire household.

Chance

Picture
This cutie came from the Moreno Valley shelter and was a bit shy but very sweet and submissive.  He was so happy to be rescued from there and quickly blossomed in foster care.  As quickly as he joined, he was also snapped up and adopted in a short week.  He happily plays with a new sisfur and loves his new home. We are so happy this little guy was saved and found an amazing home to live and play in.  Good boy, Chance!

Yuji (formerly known as "Jeter" or aka "Hitchhiker")

Picture
Yuji was a "hitchhiker" on our drive back from delivering "Bear" (see below) to Las Vegas.  Yuji is a beautiful, young sesame male Shiba Inu.  When he met his brofur, they bonded quickly and became fast friends - wrestling, running, jumping and playing.  They got along so well from the first moment they met, that we knew instantly - this was a match that must be made.  This handsome boy now has a buddy to wrestle with and owners that are home to spoil him at all hours of the day.  What more could a Shiba want?

Bear

Picture
It wasn't like there was a "lull" in Shibas, but we recently also saved our second "non Shiba" of the year.  #2 Non Shiba was a beautiful 85 lb male Akita named "Bear".  Bear was at the Inland Valley Humane Society, and was the friendliest and sweetest Akita ever to kiss the faces of shelter staff there.  They knew he was a special boy and deserved a second chance.  We helped the shelter staff by cross posting him and "pow!" those big brown eyes got the attention of one of our friends in Texas.  It may sound crazy, but it was destined to happen... We arranged for a 11 person transport with 6 "legs" from Los Angeles to Houston, TX for our friends.  With the help of volunteers and supporters from two other Shiba Inu Rescues (Animal Guardian Network in Arizona, and Shiba Inu Rescue of Texas), we got Bear safely transported in three days to his new home.

Bear now lives in a Asian breed savvy home with two Shiba siblings.  He is loving life and really enjoying his second chance.  We are so happy to have helped him find his forever home.

Barkley

Picture
Although not a Shiba, Barkley stole our hearts.  This sweet cutie was at the Orange County shelter, pegged to be put down because his previous owner said he was aggressive and had bitten him before.  We had no other details on him, except that the shelter manager wanted to give him one last chance.  She didn't see the aggression and just couldn't believe he was as bad as stated. Although Shibas come first in our home, Frenchies are a close "second" - maybe it's because we have Frenchies in our family.  We picked this cutie up right away and began to work with him and realized that his "aggression" was just puppy love nibbles.  This guy was a sweetheart through and through! We are glad to have saved Barkley. He's a lovebug that deserved a second chance.

Buddy & Sushi

Picture
"Double Trouble"~  Buddy and Sushi came to our rescue as a pair.  These two boys had a wonderful life and wonderful home, but financial difficulties were the reasons for these two cuties displacement.  Sadly they needed to find a new home TOGETHER.  Sushi was the sweet submissive boy and Buddy was the boy in "control".  Due to Buddy's dominant nature, we wanted a Shiba savvy home or someone experienced enough to work with Buddy. (Sushi was the extra cream filling of the pair.)  We were lucky to find a home that was willing to work with them, and had the knowledge and training background to do so.  Buddy and Sushi continue to blossom in their new big home and extra large yard.

Meesha

Picture
Meesha (red female Shiba) came to us from a distressed home.  She was a bit sad, but she started to perk up while in our care.  She found herself in a loving home with a step-brofur who comes to play on the weekends.  Doesn't she look happy?

Taro and Ichi (aka 'The Bosom Buddies')

Picture
Taro and Ichi were at the Orange County Animal  Shelter.  We're not sure if they were true "strays" or their owner surrendered them there - but the shelter had no records of speaking to the owner.  The poor guys just found themselves there; and without each other did very poorly in the kennels.  "Taro" is a term of endearment for a "big boy" in Japanese.  Although the more gregarious one - he whimpered constantly and wouldn't charm those that came by his kennel.  "Ichi" was aloof, reclusive  and rarely approached the front of the kennel.  (For the purposes of our photos - we were armed with cheese and got him to come forward!)  Not until we committed to taking Ichi, did the shelter staff realize that the two came "in" together.  Since they were a bonded pair, we decided to take in both of them.

They were so happy to be with one another again.  The whimpering decreased and became non-existent.  As long as the two were together - they were happy.  And, they were happy indoors or outdoors - as long as they had each other.

It was clearly evident that these two should be adopted together - however difficult that may be.  We were very lucky to meet a wonderful family that wanted to "downsize" after owning several Akitas.  For them, two Shibas was far less work than a large Akita!

We are very happy that Taro and Ichi could remain together.  Best of luck to you boys!

Addie

Picture
Addie came to us from the Las Vegas Animal Foundation after she had been hit by a car.  Our wonderful volunteers helped get her from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, where she was treated by our expert veterinarians at Advanced Critical Care.  It took her many months to heal while she was on restricted activity, limited activity and then slowly integrated back in to the "real" life.  As a result of her injuries, she had grown quite anxious of being outdoors and it took some training and anxiety medicines to help her get over her fears of being outside.

This beautiful girl is probably our most "popular" foster girl as she was featured on Indiegogo for meeting her campaign goal to cover her medical expenses.    http://www.indiegogo.com/Please-help-Addie?a=201721  She accumulated quite a fan base that would follow her throughout the months that we had her and we're so thankful for their thoughtfulness, contributions and support.  With all of those cheering her on, we're so happy that she found a wonderful home.  She is an adorable girl, so deserving of happiness.  We love you Miss Addie!

Keiro

Picture
Keiro (Kay-Roh) is a gorgeous boy that enjoyed going to doggy daycare, loved his walks, really loved tearing apart toys and going running.  He is an energetic boy with great loyalty to the family.  A real "protector", he also didn't understand that sometimes it was a good thing to have strangers come to the home.  We worked with him and our trainer with the help of some yummy cheese so that he knew that people were good, even if he didn't know them.  There's still work to be done, but his new owner is committed to it.  We're happy to hear that he's doing well in his new home.

Scarlett

Picture
Gorgeous Scarlett was a former show dog and Champion! At 13 years old, she enjoyed going on long walks with the younger "crew" and loved to eat, too!  She (and her son Thor) came to us and were the quietest, sweetest dogs to have.  As long as she went for her daily walks, and got fed - she was a content girl.  After a few short weeks, Scarlett found a wonderful home.  Someone who appreciated her for who she is now, and who she was way back when now has Scarlett as their family member.  Congratulations Scarlett!  We'll miss you tremendously..!

Thor

Picture
Meet Thor.   He came to us with his mom, Scarlett.  He is a very well bred Shiba Inu, and a cutie at 10 years old.  A sweet boy that enjoyed playing and eating, he was a joy to keep with us for the short time that we had him.  He quickly found a home and now spends time in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.  Some of our Shibas have the best luck!

Kiba

Picture
Kiba came into rescue with us after having a few homes in his short life.  A sweet and good natured boy, he had one quirk that made it difficult to care for him.  He has really bad separation anxiety.  After evaluating him and working with him, he slowly started to transform into a confident dog.  He began going to doggy daycare and playing nicely with other resident Shibas.  He really enjoyed his walks and he fell in love with a very special cushy bed.

Kiba is now in a loving home, with an awesome pawrent that takes him for three walks daily.  He still has his special cushy bed.

Nana & Nami

Picture
These two Shiba mix girls were running around as strays.  The two beautiful girls found loving homes in no time.

Chance

Picture
Cute Chance was at the Las Vegas Animal Foundation and was a "repeat" for them.  It seemed that he wasn't getting along with his family and the animal shelter contacted us for help.  We are happy that Chance got his third chance with us.  He is happy in his new home, with a fun sister to play with.

Zeus

Picture
Zeus was an owner surrender that came to us and was a total sweetheart.  This easy going senior was such a pleasure to have and fit in everywhere.  He enjoyed being out and socializing, he was cool hanging out in the backyard... He also lucked out and found a wonderful home after a few months of our foster home(s) troubleshooting his diet and getting him to lose a few pounds.Well, not too long ago, I received an email from Zeus's family and was so touched:

"Yesterday I was in Palm Springs in a fancy pet store and asked the clerk something when a little Shiba stuck her head around the corner of their counter. She was small and looked around 2 years old. The woman said she had just adopted her a few weeks ago and added "can you believe someone threw her out of a car window?" I knew immediately it was "Lady" and she was also adopted from {Saving Shibas Inc}! "Lady" looks wonderful, healthy and happy. She had just had dental work done and was doing great. They were told she was 8 or 9 but I doubt she's more than 2 at the most. Very healthy looking now. She has also found a good home through your organization.

Thank you again for the wonderful work you all do."

We love our adopters and we love the happy endings.  It's what keeps us coming back for more...

Duke

Picture
Duke came to us a bit scrawny for his larger frame and with a broken hip.  After a few weeks of R&R, he started to put weight on his back leg, started to move around more gaining mobility, and even started to fill out again!  We credit our wonderful foster home for taking such good care of him, and the wonderful doctors at Advanced Critical Care in Culver City.  We are so happy to have this gorgeous boy come into our lives so  that we could make him feel better, look better and even behave better.

Mei

Picture
Beautiful Mei came to us and stole all of our hearts.  This cutie wasn't with us long, but she landed herself an amazing home with a fun Shiba brother!  This petite little girl is a snuggly Shiba that enjoyed watching TV!...

Charlie

Picture
Charlie was our most energetic foster.  So energetic that we thought he might be a good candidate for Search and Rescue work.  In fact, he went through 3 weeks of training and evaluation and ALMOST made it!  Alas, he came back to us because he at increased distances, he would look to his handlers for direction.  Not a bad trait, but not ideal for Search and Rescue.  Charlie was so energetic that he needed 2-3 miles of running a day; would exhaust the other dogs at doggy daycare and would even take up swimming.  This guy would give the energizer bunny a workout!  Charles is now in a loving home with a family that adores him and gives him the playtime he needs and craves.

Lady

Picture
Lady is a sweet senior Shiba that was thrown out of a car.  Someone witnessed the poor gal being thrown out and went to pick her up and drove her to the nearest shelter.  We had her posted on our site for a mere 12 hours when a kind soul read her story and had to have her.  Now Lady has a home to call her own, and sleeps soundly knowing she is loved and cared for.

Thriller

Picture
Thriller was originally rescued from a kill shelter on the island of Okinawa, Japan.  A kind rescuer saw him in the shelter on his last (the day that Michael Jackson passed away) and saved this sweet, loyal "royal".  Thriller loves playing fetch, going out for walks and spending time with people.  A charming Shiba with a "true to the breed" personality, we wanted him to go to someone familiar with the breed.  Thriller now lives in a Shiba savvy home and has a "brother" who comes over to visit from time to time.  This entertainer really has something to smile and dance about!

Iko Ando

Picture
Iko Ando is an adorable, dog friendly boy who likes all humans but really bonds with the "ladies".  A true "Casanova", he quickly made friends with his now sister and lives in an amazing forever home.  He enjoys playing with a fun loving sister, hiking, biking and more playing.

Aiko

Picture
Aiko is a sweet cuddlebug Shiba that enjoys being with her family.  She has many human "siblings" to play with and enjoys lounging about on the couch when she's not going for walks or playing.

Ginger

Picture
Ginger was saved on Christmas Eve.  She now has a new Shiba brother to boss around and is having a great time with her new family!  We would have never imagined that the quiet little girl would come out of her shell so quickly!  She is a beautiful little girl with so much Shibatude to share.

Lili

Picture
Queen Liliuokalani (Lili for short) is a regal gal.  She enjoys short little walks, sitting nice for cheese and getting snuggly with her new parents.  Her new home even includes "royal quarters" for her to nap in!  This happy gal did indeed find her castle.
