ABOUT US
Saving Shibas Inc. is a 501(c)3 rescue group, consisting of volunteers and specializing in the Shiba Inu breed. Our dogs are rescued from shelters, neglect, abandonment and homes in distress. We became incorporated on December, 13, 2010 and are happy to announce that we obtained non-profit status as of February 14, 2011 (Valentine's Day)! Now what could be more fitting for a breed that we absolutely adore? Our volunteers are familiar with this breed; many of us are servants to our own Shibas. Our volunteers do not receive any compensation, and most have full time jobs and assist with Shiba rescue on the weekends. |
OUR GOAL
We ensure that each dog that is rescued is neutered/ spayed, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and evaluated. The dogs are lovingly placed in our volunteers' care, where they are nurtured in a home environment, integrated with families and other pets (as applicable). The dog’s health, temperament, behaviors are all evaluated and documented during a period of approximately 10-16 weeks. In some cases, we may work on a few training issues with an IACP (International Association of Canine Professionals) accredited dog trainer for behavior modification. Only after the dog is properly evaluated, and all medical needs are addressed will the dog be placed in the appropriately fitting home for both the dog and the adoptive family. Our volunteers are located in the Southern California areas and Las Vegas, NV.

Where do our rescued Shibas come from?
Our rescued Shibas usually come from distressed situations, from animal shelters or were found as strays. We temperament test them and address training needs, if needed.
What's the adoption process and why does it take so long?
We would like to take our time in finding the right match for you and your family. Some of our Shibas may not be good with children, or sometimes they don't get along with other family pets. To help us find the right match for your home, we ask that you complete an Application to Adopt questionnaire. Bear with us, but once a good match is found, we will be in contact with you.
I've been waiting but I saw a Shiba "on Craigslist/on the internet/at the petstore"! What's wrong with getting my Shiba there?
Saving Shibas Inc. supports responsible breeding and promotes getting your pet from a reputable Shiba Inu breeder. We recommend selecting a breeder who does applicable health screens. Responsible breeders can be used as a helpful resource throughout your pet's life. To find a breeder near you, please check http://www.shibas.org/breeders.html. To learn more about selecting the "right" breeder, please check this site.
Not only am I a saving a dog, but I want to save money by getting a rescue Shiba Inu.
Remember that the cost of the pet is not the only expense! Annual vaccinations, unexpected medical fees, food, your schedule(s), home/living arrangement(s), etc should also all be a part of your analysis when deciding on taking in a pet.
Where is your facility?
We do not have a facility. We are a small group of volunteers, relying on foster homes to provide for our rescued Shibas. Please send us an email with an application to set up an appointment!
If I get a rescued Shiba Inu, is the adoption donation tax deductible?
Yes, adoption donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law, since Saving Shibas Inc. is a non profit 501(c)3 entity. Saving Shibas Inc. is a non-profit organization and receives no federal or state funding. Your support makes a difference in our ability to save the lives of many abandoned Shibas!
